The Evelyn P. Tyner Interpretive Center models sustainability and includes a green roof, energy conservation techniques, and recycled products. It also helps modern Midwesterners develop a relationship with native landscapes of the region─plants, animals, and ecological processes. As a meeting place for volunteers, tour groups, and school field trips, the building provides a welcoming indoor and outdoor space in which to gather and exchange ideas. As an educational center, it offers programmed space for formal classroom-like presentations and for active learning. Interpretive displays and literature, including self-guided tours and signage along the trail system complete the educational mission. As a model for sustainable interaction between cultural and natural worlds, the Interpretive Center serves as an important destination for visitors and residents alike.
