Dailey Road Neighborhood, Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians

Conservation Design Forum assisted in the planning and implementation of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians' first housing community. Following the Band's Tribal Mission to provide a high quality of life to its members while preserving Mother Earth, CDF and the Band designed the community master plan to recognize the unique topographic and landscape features of the site and incorporate them into an integrated system of restored natural woodlands, prairies, and wetlands accessible to residents via walking paths. The first neighborhood located at Dailey Road incorporates sustainable site infrastructure strategies including bioswales, rain gardens, and flat-curbed streets to maximize rainwater cleansing and infiltration on-site. The homes were designed and oriented to view restored natural landscapes. Front porches, in the traditional neighborhood style, provide space for outdoor enjoyment and communion with neighbors, while screened porches and patios in the rear of the homes provide more private space.
