Mequon Nature Preserve Interpretive Farm

Mequon, WI

The interpretive farm plan outlines how an 80 acre farm can grow healthy food sustainably while also restoring ecological health and vitality to the land, revitalizing local economies, and educating the public.  Restorative agriculture techniques are combined with agritourism programs make this farm approach economically sustainable and self-sufficient.

Midewin Tallgrass Prairie Environmental Center

Wilmington, IL

The Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie – at over 18,000 acres – is the largest open space in the Chicago Metropolitan area.  As a part of the Burnham Plan Centennial Green Legacy Project, CDF and a team led by Carol Ross Barney Architects were selected to design two educational facilities: 1) an interpretive and education center located at the Iron Bridge, and 2) an outdoor classroom located at the prairie seed production fields.  The overarching vision and conceptual plans were presented to the US Forest Service and other partnering organizations in late July 2009.
